Warrington Borough Council is seeking volunteers to join its Independent Education Appeal Panels.
If you’re interested in education, have free time during the day and would like to contribute to your local community, becoming a panel member may be for you.
The council is looking for members in the following categories:
- Lay people – Someone without any personal experience in the management of a school or providing education in a school, except as a governor or other voluntary capacity.
- People with experience in education – Someone who is familiar with educational conditions in the Warrington area or is a parent/guardian of registered pupils at school.
You don’t need specific panel experience to apply as appropriate training will be provided and all hearings will be supported by an experienced clerk. Excellent listening skills and the ability to make balanced and objective decisions would be an advantage for applicants.
Panel member roles are voluntary and unpaid, but panel members receive travel expenses for all meetings they attend. The majority of the meetings will be held during the day at Warrington Town Hall, where refreshments and parking will be provided.
If you would like to apply to become a school appeals panel member, please contact the school appeals team by 23 December.
You call 01925 443029, email schoolappeals@warrington.gov.uk or write to School Admissions Appeal Panel, Sankey Street, Warrington, WA1 1UH to apply.
