Work is about to begin on key road improvements, which will support Warrington’s ambitious town centre regeneration plans.

Monday 18 February sees the start of important work on Academy Way, which will include major drainage works within the highway and associated resurfacing and landscaping works.

The Council will be closing Academy Way at its junction with Moulders Lane and Bank Street to allow the work to take place. The access to the new Time Square Multi Storey Car Park will also, at times, have traffic restrictions during this period.

The council is asking people to be patient during the improvement works, which will run for a period of 20 weeks and are likely to cause some disruption.

The improvements form part of Warrington’s Time Square scheme, a leisure-led development that is being carried out by the Council to revitalise the heart of Warrington’s town centre and Bridge Street area.

Advanced signs are in place to advise motorists of potential disruption. Contractors are also liaising with local businesses and taxi companies to keep them fully informed, and will continue to do so throughout the works.

About the Time Square development

•    When completed in 2020, the Time Square scheme will create a new family-friendly, restaurant and leisure experience that will have a newly developed, contemporary market hall and a state-of-the-art multiplex cinema at its heart, a range of new leisure facilities, a public square and new 1,160 space multi-storey car park.
•    The Time Square scheme will create up to 400 construction jobs and 400 new permanent jobs in the leisure, retail and restaurant sectors.
