It has been yet another year of excellent GCSE results in Warrington.
The vast majority of Warrington schools have shown an increase in the percentage of pupils achieving well in their GCSE performance across eight subjects – known as Attainment 8.
The percentage of Warrington students achieving a ‘strong pass’ [Grade 9 to grade 5] this year in Maths and English stands at 49% – an increase of 2.4% from last year.
Across the borough, 71.5% of students achieved Grade 4+ [pass] in Maths and English, a 4.3% increase on last year and well above national results from last year.
Now in their third year, the reformed GCSEs in Maths and English are different in structure, content and assessment format and are graded using numbers rather than letters, with 9 being the top grade and 1 being the lowest.
Warrington Borough Council’s cabinet member for children’s services, Cllr Matt Smith, said: “I’d like to congratulate our young people on their fantastic achievements in this year’s GCSEs. It’s more great news for education in Warrington, following last week’s excellent A-levels results.
“The improvements we have seen, yet again, in Warrington this year are down to the the hard work of students and the excellent teaching and support from schools staff.
“GCSEs provide the foundation for future success in further education, training and employment, improving career opportunities for our young people. These impressive results show that our schools continue to equip our students with the knowledge and skills they need to reach their full potential.”
