Whitecross Park play area has had a fantastic makeover, thanks to a £90,000 investment.
Warrington Borough Council has completed its latest play area revamp, transforming the look and feel of the play area, and making it fully inclusive for children of all abilities.
Improvements include the replacement of previous play equipment with brand new equipment and the levelling far corner of the play area, which was previously sloped.
The investment has also seen the play area – aimed at children aged 2-8 – given a ‘Sankey Canal’ theme – complete with paintings of water, canal boats, swans, fish and ducks – which were chosen following consultation with the community.
Warrington Borough Council’s cabinet member for leisure and community, Cllr Tony Higgins said: “All children should be able to play safely and creatively in our green spaces. I’m thrilled that the new-look Whitecross play area is now completed and ready for children to use.
“We continue to invest in accessible play areas, because we understand the huge difference they can make to health and wellbeing. The play area looks stunning and I’m sure it will helping creating many happy memories for local children and families.”
Grant funding of £50,000 was awarded by FCC Environment through the FCC Communities Foundation Community Action Fund, and the remainder of the funding for the project was provided by the council. Wicksteed Ltd were the contractors for the project.
