Young people in Birchwood will be getting up to lots of new ‘tricks’ in Birchwood, thanks to the completion of a ‘wheely’ exciting new project.
The newly-renovated Birchwood Forest Park skatepark has officially opened, following a £120,000 improvement project.
It now features a variety of ramps and humps, a grind rail and seating blocks. A brand new tarmac pump track for BMX and scooters has also been installed, along with additional benches and bins.
Warrington Borough Council’s Cabinet member for leisure and community, Cllr Tony Higgins said, “This fantastic project has transformed Birchwood Forest Park skatepark. The previous equipment and surfacing was old and provided little value for skateboarders, and offered very little provision for other wheel sports.
“Now, thanks to these improvements, there’s a safe, fun, varied and exciting environment for a range of activities. It means that young people who enjoy skateboarding, BMX and scooter have a first-class community facility in which to enjoy their hobby, build their skills, and improve their health and wellbeing.”
The improvement works, which began in April, were funded by a FCC Communities Foundation contribution of £60,000, with the remaining £60,000 coming from the council. Work was carried out by Canvas Spaces Ltd to design areas that complemented each other and catered for a range of abilities, ages and types of wheel sports.
