Householders in Warrington are being urged to look out for important voter registration information in the post.
Each year, the council carries out the annual canvass to ensure that resident details are current and correct on the electoral register. Households, by law, have to provide information requested on the forms and could get hit with a fine if they don’t respond.
Forms will be delivered to households between today, Friday 19 July, and Sunday 28 July.
Deputy returning officer, David Boyer said: “To vote in an election you have to be registered. We need to ensure the electoral register is up to date so it’s vitally important for residents to complete their household enquiry forms.
“Checking whether the information held about your household is correct only takes a couple of minutes and you can respond online with just a few clicks. You can also reply by post or phone.”
The registration form asks householders:
- the name and nationality of everyone living in the household aged 16 or over;
- whether there are any residents who are not eligible to vote, and why;
- whether their nationality has changed;
- if they are now over 76 years old;
- to cross out the name(s) of anyone listed on the form who is no longer living at the address; and
- to include contact information, if they wish to.
